Bomb Roller 2 Abandoned

Hello there,

I'm sorry to say that I have abandoned work on Bomb Roller 2. The engine was a total mess, because I was only testing it on one map, so when I tested it on a new map, everything was messed up. I stopped having fun programming it also.

But don't despair, I am going to make Bomb Roller v2.0, which is an improved version of the original Bomb Roller, including a map editor, the ability to load custom maps, more tiles, a new load game function, and 5-10 more maps.

I am also thinking about making a map downloader function, where you can download new maps from my site, submitted by other people. It might be able to download new updates, as well.

I also might try to make Bomb Roller 2 again eventually, with actual physics that work, advanced collision, etc.

Also, the UFO shoot-em-up game is suspended until I get a new computer, which I might get next week!

If you haven't figured out already, I am programming again! :-)

Work on Bomb Roller 2 Resumed

Hello there,

A week ago, I decided to start working on Bomb Roller 2. So far, I have added trap tiles (tiles that look like the ground tiles, but fall apart when you run over them), and ramp tiles. I also added another camera angle. Here are some screens:

........

The first screen shows the trap tiles. Since they are supposed to be hard to see, you may have to click on it to see the large version.

Right now, I am improving the tiles, like making the trap tiles fall apart when running over them instead of just falling through them, etc.

Game Review: Ac!d Bomb

Hello there,

I just found the game Ac!d Bomb a while ago on Gamehippo.com when I was downloading tons of games (I usually go on mass-game downloading sprees every couple of months), and this one stood out the most. Here is a description of the game from VertigoGaming.net:

Acidbomb is a fifty level puzzle game where you must find the pistons used to trigger a bomb and defuse them before time runs out. There are many bombs scattered around the world, from biological bombs that have hair-sensitive triggers to napalm bombs that are exploding at the seams, to nuclear warheads that have challenged even the highest trained bomb defusal agent.

Ac!dbomb is a very fun puzzle game, and has very cool graphics. The backgrounds of different levels vary, and are all very neat. The gameplay is excellent, too. Those brownish laser looking things you can see in the screenshot detect pistons, which you must mark all of before the timer runs out to win. The lasers detect how many pistons are in its path, and tell you. In some combinations of cells, it gets challenging to find where the pistons are, so it involves alot of logic, and if you like minesweeper, you will definitely like this game. There are also many additional things like a kind of bomb that randomizes all the cells every once and a while

and virus cells which add to the total challenge and enjoyment level of the game. Although the music is mostly loops, it still sounds good and you pretty much forget about the music when you're speeding through the level before the timer goes out.

The screenshot to the right shows a super bomb, which are extremely challenging, and are just plain scary. The music also adds to that. I never knew just a small difference in the looks of the cells, the radiation symbols, and the music can make such a difference. It is also very suspenseful when you finish marking all the cells, press enter to decrease the timer to 10 seconds, and hope that you have marked them right and hear the ding which means you got it right, instead of the big flash of color and explosion.

I only have one criticism of the game: the controls are kind of weird. You use the mouse to mark the cells, and use the w,a,s,d keys to move the lasers when there are two of them. If there is a third diagonal one, the e and f keys are added. There are also two other key combinations, but they are even weirder than this one. But after a minute or two, you get used to them and it doesn't matter much anymore.

Edit: I have just finished the game. Once you get the idea about how to finish levels, it gets extremely repetitive. So I am lowering the score by a point.

I give it an 7.5/10
Gameplay: 9/10 -1 for repetitiveness after you figure out the trick
Graphics: 9/10
Sound/Music: 7/10

Download it here.

Bomb Roller Featured on Many Websites

Hello there,

I was very excited to notice how many freeware game websites now have my best game, Bomb Roller. I only submitted it to Caiman.us (click link to see Bomb Roller's page), and it has already been featured on alot of Czech websites, and a Czech blog. But it is also on one or two English websites too, like this one.

I also found Laser Assault on one a while ago. I can't find it right now, though.

And since my bandwidth usage for my website went from 9 to 30% used overnight, I have just removed ALL game files, or any downloads larger than a few kilobytes, and uploaded it to Filefront.com and added redirects. This should let me last over half a month before I run out :-(.

Game Review: Sunday Panzers

Hello there,

When you play this game, it is obviously very well polished. It has a great menu, cool camera effects, and awesome graphics. Sunday Panzers is a tank game where you drive around and shoot enemy tanks. Each level, you get to buy your own tank and buy other tanks to help you defeat the enemy.

It has very simple controls: move with arrow keys and shoot with space, and it gets very fun and insane once more tanks arrive. The graphics are cartoonish, and I really like the feel. And the ability to chose your own tank makes it very replayable and fun.

I give it an 8/10. It is well worth the download. Download it from the author's site here, and you can read a forum thread about it here.

Game Review: Mono and Duo

Hello there,

If you haven't played these games before, you are missing out. They're made by Binary Zoo Studios, and not only have really cool graphics, but the best game play possible.

Here is a screen of Mono:

In this game, you move your ship with the mouse, and blast the crap out of all the colored circles with crazy bullet patterns. The objective of the game is to make the background covered with the opposite color. Whenever you destroy a circle, it leaves some color behind on the background, but whenever you're hit, it subtracts color from where you were when you were hit. It starts out pretty easy, but it quickly gets really challenging, and then the circles start shooting at you. This game is excellent in terms of game play, and the music is good too. 8/10

Here's a screen of Duo:

If it is even possible, this game is even better than Mono. It has the familiar crazyness with the bullet patterns and enemies, and the same type of graphics as Mono: simple, but awesome. In this game, your ship can move left and right, and in very few levels, up and down, but the cool think about this game is that you shoot both up and down at enemies coming in all directions. Once the game really gets started, enemies start flying everywhere, particle effects coming out of every possible location, and it becomes a game of fast reflexes. This is where all sanity leaves and never comes back. 9/10

You can download these two games and more from the creator's website: Binaryzoo.com.

Progress on UFO Shoot-Em-Up

Hello there,

This temporarily named project that I am working on for a competition is going along nicely. I have reached a tedious step in the project, but I should get done with that soon.

This game will be a 3D graphics, 2D gameplay shoot-em-up, where you shoot at UFOs and make it to the end of the level. It has spawn points that make enemies, which you have to shoot and destroy to stop making them. Here are some screens:

Right now, you can only move and shoot. The first level UFOs will be added shortly.

You can read more here.
And read a forum thread here.

Progress on Bomb Roller 2

Hello there,

I've been working on Bomb Roller 2 for a while. The development has halted on it at the moment, because I am working on another game for a competition. I will post on that one after this.

Bomb Roller 2 is obviously a sequel to Bomb Roller, which you can download from my games page here. You roll a bomb through a level while avoiding many obstacles, and using various tiles to make it though. Here are some screen shots:

Welcome to UFO Games Blog!

Hello there,

I just made quite a few changes to the website (UFOGames.galekus.com), including links to filefront.com download pages instead of some popularly downloaded game's direct download links, because I was losing tons of bandwidth. I also made direct download's urls redirect to the games page, so they can download from the filefront or other mirrors instead. It will also help popularize my other games. I hope it isn't much of an inconvenience.

I also made this blog (surprising huh? :-S). I probably won't post here much, but I will try my best. I hope you like it :-)
